ABOUT MAX
Hi! I’m Maximilian Whitcher, a versatile, award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger. Piano, cello and double bass have been my trusted companions for many years. For a long time, I toured nationally and internationally with various bands and ensembles across jazz, classical, pop and contemporary scenes, and I’ve contributed as a studio musician on numerous albums and projects. As a composer, I write contemporary classical works, create music for theatre (including productions at venues like Stadttheater Bern or Rote Fabrik) and write and produce Art Pop songs. I’ve also worked as a musical director for projects such as Zürich Tanzt.I hold a BA in Jazz Double Bass, Piano and Composition and an MA in Composition & Theory from the Bern University of the Arts (HKB), as well as a CAS in Classical Cello Performance from ZHdK and classical piano and double bass training at the Conservatory of Bern and the Académie de Musique et de Théâtre in Monaco.Today, alongside writing, arranging and producing music with my wife and musical partner Marena Whitcher, I love sharing my experience with my students. My goal is to make music practical, inspiring and personal. Whether you want to master jazz grooves, dive into classical pieces, improvise freely or write your own songs.I teach in German, English, French and Italian for students aged 14 and up, always with an open mind, a good dose of humour, and a genuine passion for making music together.

FAQ
How do the lessons work in practice?
We start by setting clear goals based on what you want to achieve. Lessons usually include warm-ups, focused work on pieces or techniques, and practical tools for effective practice at home. Every session ends with a concrete plan so you know exactly what to do next. Can we work on my own music or specific pieces?
Absolutely. Whether it’s an audition piece, a song you’ve written yourself, or a favourite track you’ve always wanted to play, we’ll integrate it into the lessons and use it to build your skills. How do you keep students motivated?
Progress feels best when it’s visible. I’ll give you tools for practising smarter, not longer, and make sure every lesson leaves you with small wins that build confidence and keep you excited to learn. What if I’m nervous about starting?
Many students feel that way, especially if they’ve been told they “can’t play” or if it’s been years since their last lesson. My job is to make the learning environment safe, encouraging, and fun, so you can rediscover music without pressure.
